Description: World-renowned herbalist, Matthew Wood, will teach this two-day workshop. He will focus on native medicinal herbs in our region and practical household herbalism. There will be some classroom time as well as several herb walks (weather permitting). The woods, gardens, fields, prairie and barnyard at Kinstone offer a spectacular and diverse setting where we will find many native plants in their natural habitats. We will be walking the land, so dress for the weather and wear your hiking boots and be prepared to walk in rough and sometimes steep terrain. Bring rain coats and boots if needed. Learn about the setting of the standing stones in the Kinstone Circle including who they represent, what might be buried underneath them and alignments to Summer and Winter Solstice. Visit the Stargazer Circle to see the Reflection Stone, and the two Stargazer Stones. See the dry-stack limestone sculpture known as The Three Witnesses with its Equinox Window. Get answers to some common and some not-so common questions!

Master Class in Permaculture Design – Spring 2017

Description: This advanced, applied Permaculture design course is for anyone looking to study Permaculture design at a deeper level. Enhance your understanding of the Permaculture ethics and principles and practice applying them to property designs with input and guidance from experienced Permaculture consultant and designer, Wayne Weiseman. Gain the skills and confidence needed to take your Permaculture design skills beyond your own back yard. This course will give you the skills and foresight needed to assess, conceive and design any property into a perpetual harvest garden. This program teaches the use of ecological landscape design language and technique using the Permaculture design process to create an ecologically balanced residence and abundant lifestyle. You will practice designing property infrastructure, the built environment, integration of animals and plants, and merging all of these elements into a designed landscape of your creation. This course is an in-depth practicum of the process and concept of designing; it is not a how-to technical drawing course.

Plants in Permaculture with Wayne Weiseman
Date: June 1-4, 2017

Description: In this intensive four-day class, you will learn techniques to help you identify and use local trees and plants, come to an understanding of their significance in the landscape and practice using plants for food, medicine and utility. You will identify and harvest plants in the wild; then study, process and transform them. You will make tinctures, decoctions, infusions, teas, ferments, salads and more. We will observe, study and interact with the 4-yr old Kinstone Prairie. We will explore prairie, woodland, savanna, pasture, gardens, farm fields, and other ecosystems found at or near Kinstone.

Get a glimpse into the life of days gone by of this historic river city. We have a large collection of displays and one of the largest collection of arrow heads and other Native American tools in the United States. Some of these artifacts date back 20,000 years.
June Bloom Wine & Food Event
Enjoy a long weekend of romance and adventure on the Great River Road Wine Trail! This special event presents ample opportunities to sample fine food and wine, from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. Each winery on the Great River Road Wine Trail will feature their award winning wines and ciders paired with an array of local foods designed with gourmet flair. In addition to local foods, some wineries will also feature live music by local talent.
Advance tickets for the event are $25 per person. Each ticket holder will receive a wine trail glass and a six-bottle wine tote at the first winery visited. Their ticket and wine glass will entitle the holder to free wine and food tasting at each winery. Plan to enjoy the event for the entire weekend, and visit all 11 wineries! Start as far away as you can, and work your way home! The Winona and La Crosse area is fairly centrally located on the trail and home of may fine B&B’s, guest houses, and motels. Book early this fill up during weekend events.
Please have a designated driver (sorry no wine tasting, but a lot of great local food). Designated driver tickets are $10 per person and include wine glass and bottle tote.
